How Heavy Late-Night Dinner Can Ruin Your Progress?

Most of the people around the world are always hungry late at night. The reasons behind late-night eating are various. Many people come from work very late at night, so they have no other way out of escaping food. Others just have an addiction and every time they want to go to bed they end up in the kitchen.  However, all of us eat late at night on occasion. In general, late night dinners are harmful to your health and can cause numerous problems. But in some cases, if you pick good food eating during the late-night hours becomes harmless, especially if you are planning to build your body.

A healthy eating routine in the form of balanced meals and snacks supports your overall wellness and promotes good appetite control. The earlier you consume calories, the more time you have to burn them off over 24 hour period. When the clock strikes 8 p.m. and you want to resort to late-night eating, first of all, you should choose healthy snacks as excessive food quantities, however, can cause many problems. Late night dinners can bring the following types of diseases and in the end, it will ruin all the hard work you’ve done in the gym.

Weight Gain

Your body is supplied by the food you eat and it’s full of energy in the form of calories. Eating calorie-dense foods late at night may cause a weight gain. When you resort to late-night eating, you take certain foods that are linked to lower body weights. Depending on your age you should choose nutritious foods, such as whole grains, fruits or vegetables. Fruits and vegetables including carrots, apples, broccoli, and watermelon have a low energy density. Whole grains are also considered as low energy dense foods that may also help to limit weight gain. Grains are high in fiber that keeps you feeling full. So, filling up on low-calorie foods late at night helps you eat fewer calories overall for better weight control.


The inability of falling asleep is one of the most common complaints among people. Fatty food, caffeine, various energy-boosting foods, such as chocolate, particularly near bedtime can cause insomnia discomforting and disrupting for your sleep. So your best choice of eating something late at night should be evening snacks containing many carbohydrates and protein, such as milk and cereal. Sleep is essential for good health so you should choose such food that promotes calmness.


Going to bed after you eat can bring such symptoms as a tight and burning sensation in your chest. To avoid this you have to eliminate highly spicy and garlic-flavored foods late in the day. Tomato sauce or fried foods are fatty and acidic foods, so they may cause heartburn.

Acid Reflux

This is a condition in which acid backs up from the stomach into the esophagus. Overeating and eating acidic foods at night may heighten these risks. Limiting fatty foods at night or just avoiding large meals especially at night may prevent you from acid reflux.

Late night snacking has both psychological and physiological components. In many ways, it is considered to be an addiction. Overcoming a late-night dinner habit is figuring out your eating routine. In order not to end up guilty and embarrassed you should not forget your conscious mind. Overcome these hurdles, be strong and prepared and try to reprogram yourself to be healthier and happier.
